Healthy Longevity

Healthy Longevity

We had another edition of The Future of Medicine (FoM), this time in the city of Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, in October, with the participation of the British scientist Prof. Dame Linda Partridge.

Professor Partridge is one of the world’s most renowned scientists in the field of longevity and healthy aging. Professor Emeritus at University College London (UCL), she was director of the Institute of Healthy Ageing at this University for many years. She was also the founder and director of the Max Planck Institute for Biology of Ageing in Cologne, Germany.

Her pioneering research has revealed that it is possible to extend healthy life through genetic and nutritional interventions. In her professional career, she has received numerous awards and honorary degrees. A member of the Royal Society and the Academy of Medical Sciences, she received the title of Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE) for her contributions to science. She is considered one of the most influential voices in the pursuit of longevity with health and purpose. It is a global reference in the fusion of evolutionary biology, genetics, physiology, and pharmacology to understand how to age well, and not just live longer.

This edition of FoM was supported by UNIMED Porto Alegre, UNIMED being one of the largest health operators in Brazil, and her keynote conference was held at the beautiful Instituto Ling for a distinguished audience of professionals and leaders from various health fields.

The topic that Dame Linda addressed was “Healthy Longevity,” giving us a true journey from basic sciences, through clinical research, and current possible science-based interventions for a long and healthy life.

Much remains to be done in research in the area of healthy longevity, but we have already learned a lot about what and how to do it to achieve this goal.
